This is Seamus. Today is his 74th birthday. Born in 1946, his life expectancy was only 10 years at the time. Seamus has always been a very special part of the Mooney family. His mother cared for him until she passed away in 2001 at the age of 94. After her passing, Seamus started attending day services at the Brothers of Charity . His mum was always afraid that society would never understand or love him the way she did. The Brothers of Charity opened up a wonderful new world for Seamus where he learned to enjoy a wonderful social life, swimming, music therapy & a huge range of activities as well as making amazing friendships. Seamus loves music and singing especially Christmas music - jingle bells features at all times of the year! He enjoys a coffee in the morning, anything sweet, Lego and playing with old greeting cards, but his favourite guilty pleasure is indulging in a drop of brandy which has become a more frequent treat over the last few months. We have no doubt he will be spoilt rotten today and will enjoy a drop of brandy tonight followed by his own rendition of ‘My Lovely Rose of Clare’ or ‘The Fields of Athenry’. Happy birthday Seamus from all your family who love you dearly and from us at Down Syndrome Limerick ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks to Michelle Fitzgerald for sharing this lovely story with us and to Seamus’s sister and husband (Michelle’s parents) who care for him so dearly.
